ZAMBEZI RIVER
The
Zambezi is Africa's fourth largest river system, after the Nile,
Zaire and Niger rivers. It runs through six countries. The source
of the river is in Zambia and the mouth is in Mozambique, flowing
into the Indian Ocean. The river is 2 700km long. There are two
main dams; (1) Kariba dam - 281km long 40km wide at its widest
point, (2) Cahora Bassa dam - 290km long and 38km wide at widest
point. The river provides food, power, pleasure and
transport. It also provides a home for untold numbers of wildlife
along its journey.
